Okay, I may have made a hollow promise to myself.  After my last post, I had inadvertently claimed that I was done sanding.  Well, this isn’t exactly true.  After researching the best methods to finish a guitar body, I found that a 500 grit sandpaper treatment was only the beginning of the progression.

Apparently, 500 grit sandpaper is just used to level the surface.  You must THEN use a progression of 600, 800, 1000 and 1500 grit sandpaper to smooth out the scratches and swirls on the body.  If you don’t do this, then it would be nearly impossibly to buff the finish smooth.

It’s back to the 500 paper to rough up the surface, and then a weekend worth of sanding using increasingly fine paper…  By the way, click any of the links above to purchase that sandpaper directly from Amazon.com.
